El Hierro. The island of 1000 volcanoes

El Hierro, (The island of 1000 volcanoes) is the most Western and the smallest but one of the Canary Archipelago. The economy is mainly based on tourism attracted by the beautiful nature,
also because of the culture and the simple and quiet way of life bound to sustainable development.
In addition to all of this El Hierro has a unique geological heritage, with still active volcanoes e.g in 2011 there was an underwater eruption near the coast of La Restinga which resulted in a new temporary inactive volcano called Tagoro.
This geological milestone launched an exciting project that culminated in 2014 with the declaration of the island of El Hierro as a Geopark by UNESCO.
